Plates are mounted photographs. T.p. includes mounted photograph entitled: "Scott's Monument at Edinburgh.".

T.p. printed in red and black.

Photographic illustrations are by Thomas Annan, a photographer who worked in Glasgow, Scotland.

Each canto begins with a wood-engraved illustrated initial and each ends with a wood-engraved tail-piece.

MASS copy: Bound in red-brown sand-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind. Upper and lower covers blocked in gold with the titling and a stylized heraldic design with imagery similar to that blocked in gold on the covers of McLean O 558, designed by John Leighton. Spine with imprint: "Bennett". Boards with bevelled edges; a.e.g. With binder's ticket: "Bound by Westleys & Co. London.". With bookplate: "Ex Libris C. J. Peacock.".
