LC copy accompanied by a copy of the official translation: The constitution of Japan, with the laws appertaining thereto, and the imperial oath and speech promulgated at the Imperial Palace, February 11th, 1889. Yokohama : "Japan Gazette", 1889.

NUC pre-1956 NM 0798934

LC copy has inscription on t.p. attributed to Rudyard Kipling. Formerly owned by Edna Taylor Hill. Inscription reads: "From the Boothe Club, Allahabad, India, taken on journey round the world in 1889. In partnership with R.K." In different handwriting: "Signed Edna Taylor Hill". Accompanied by undated handwritten note on 2 leaves by Mrs. Hill detailing the invitation for Kipling to travel with them. Also accompanied by 2 [4] p. handwritten letters addressed to Mr. Carpenter, signed Edna Taylor Hill, April 11, 1928 and February 4, 1929. Second letter is in envelope postmarked Baltimore, Feb. 4, 1929. Has bookplate of William M. Carpenter.
