First Sentence

"We earth-dwellers have had many struggles during our dramatic sojourn upon the planet : the struggle merely to exist; the struggle to leave the water and have a terra firma beneath our feet,-indeed, the struggle to acquire pedal extremities with which to explore the solid earth; the struggle to master a rude environment, to invent tools, to conquer Nature's forces, and then to enslave them as servants to our will; the struggle to co-operate, to stabilize group behaviour and to invent language as a fitting mechanism for communication and social valuation."
