This book describes the life of the children who were said to be the basis for the Walker children in the Swallows and Amazons series of books by Arthur Ransome. They lived in Aleppo, Syria, where their father was a doctor. They were visited there by Arthur Ransome. However he also knew them when they holidayed on the banks of Consiton Water, in the Lake District of England, UK.
