Holograph.
Includes transcriptions of extracts from books and magazines; a number of poems by Cumberland; anecdotes about striking individuals; travel notes about Italy; accounts of Cumberland's own inventions; records of techniques Cumberland had observed such as "Blakes instructions to print copper plates" (p. [149]); notes for books Cumberland proposes to write, and some longer compositions by Cumberland. Cf. Bentley.
Bound in old Buff cardboard, the front cover folded over the back one to make an envelope; edges gilt. The cover bears sketches inside and out. Sewn in gatherings mostly of six sheets. Endpapers are unwatermarked dark grey paper.
Paper faintly watermarked: Crest over GFA (76 pages) and a rampant lion under a crown (72 pages).
Leaves 29 and 66-69 are blank; rectos of leaves 9, 36, 57, 70, 71 & 73 are blank; versos of leaves 22, 28, 43-45, 49, 51, 58-61, 64, 65 & 72 are blank.
Leaf 62 mostly torn out with complete loss of text.
Cumberland crossed out a number of entries, some of which were transferred to his manuscript biography of Horne Tooke.
