"Thirty copies ... were printed at the Gehenna Press ... The letterpress has been achieved by Arthur Larson of Hadley, Massachusetts. The lithographs were printed by Herb Fox at Merrimac, Massachusetts & Timothy Sheesley at the Corridor Press, Otego, New York. All impressions are printed from the stones, lithographic plates & woodblocks on various European & Japanese handmade papers. The type is Jan van Krimpen's Spectrum, cast by Golgonooza Letter Foundry. Daniel Gehnrich has bound the entire edition. Copies 1-8 have a second suite of the plates, one of the woodblocks, a touched proof & a preparatory drawing by Leonard Baskin; copies 9-30 constitute the regular edition. Several copies printed for the book's collaborators are hors d'commerce"--Colophon.
Bound in green leather, issued together with a portfolio of a second set of leaves of plates, another portfolio with two leaves and a drawing, and a woodblock. Issued in green cloth clamshell box with green leather spine.
Main work has 41 leaves of plates and 24 letterpress leaves, some letterpress printed on both sides of leaf; the t.p. is illustrated and is printed in red and black. The portfolio with second set of leaves has 43 leaves of plates which include the illustration of the t.p. and of the headpiece ornament of the colophon.
LC copy is numbered "2" and is signed by Lisa Unger Baskin.
LC copy has woodblock of one of the prints of Caspar David Friedrich (the one bound third in LC's copy). In the portfolio with two leaves and a drawing, LC's copy has a pencil drawing entitled "Friedrich," a variation on the print of Jacques Offenback (with a hat), and a proof of one of the prints of Franz Xavier Messerschimidt (frontal view with long neck).
