Edition Notes
Vols. 1-2, 3-6, paged continuously.
Irish and English on opposite pages.
Compiled in 1632-36 from ancient manuscripts, by Michael O'Clery, assisted by Conary, and Cucogry O'Clery, and Ferfeasa O'Mulconry.--according to the editor--the Four masters. (cf. also Nat. lib. of Ireland, Bibl. of Irish philology, p.251, but the Catalouge of Irish manuscripts in the Brit. Mus., v. 1, p. 20, gives Peregrine (Cucogry) O'Duigenan in place of Conary O'Clery, which agrees with Colgan's statement in his Acta Sanctorum Hiberniae, 1645. (cited in Introd., p.xxvi, and Hyde's Lit. hist. of Ire.))
The last part, v.3-6, A.D. 1172-1616, was printed in 3 vols. in 1848, as the editor originally intended to publish only that portion not included by C. O'Conor in Rerum hibernicarum scriptores, t.III, 1826. In 1851, v.1-2 (to 1171) were issued with a revised introduction, and new title pages to the other volumes. (cf. Introd., p. xxxi and xxxix, and Martyrology of Donegal, p.xi) Apparently other parts, also, were revised. cf. Catalogue of the Bradshw collection of Irish books, v.1, p. 531 (no.3127)
Known also as the Annals of Donegal.
