Richard Allen laments that D. O'Connell is in prison. He wants the Americans to speak in his behalf. He says that there is a division in the ranks of the abolitionists in Ireland. Allen explains: "Jas. Haughton & R. D. Webb on the B. & F. [British & Foreign Anti-Slavery Society] of this view; Jas. H. Webb & myself for free trade."
