"PHILO (Judaeus) was probably born B. C. 20, in Alexandria, of a sacerdotal family and taught the usual Jewish instruction, though he uses none but the Septuagint version of the Scriptures, with all its variations from the Hebrew, and hence apparently poorly trained in Hebrew (Scaliger, Cudworth, Geiger)."
