First Sentence

"In his first lecture on the "Vedanta Philosophy," the late Professor F. Max Mueller, of the Oxford University, a scientific representative of the nineteenth century, recently demised, after a long, glorious career, introduced his subject with the following timely remarks (Ibid,. p. 1): "I am fully aware of the difficulties which I shall have to encounter in trying to enlist your interest and, if possible, your sympathy, for an ancient system of philosophy."
