Edition Notes

Engraved t.p. and dedication (plates [1]-[2])

Dedication on t.p. to Giovanni Battista Borghesi, prince of Sulmona.

Dedication written by Lanfranco's son, Giuseppe (Cf. B.M., v. 130, c. 3). Lower right corner has been cut from the plate (Giuseppe Lanfranco's name engraved there?). Leaf on which dedication is printed has left, upper and lower margins extended with paper strips.

Plates [1], [2], 4-18 are various sizes on leaves 40 x 53 cm. Leaves folded to 40 x 28 cm. and are attached to the binding with paper hinges along folds. Plate 3 on single leaf 40 x 27 cm. Plate number 16 engraved 17, corrected in ink.

The frescos were never painted due to the death of Pope Paul V, who had commissioned them.
