This is a book to teach students how to construct Chinese characters. The cover is wider than the inside pages and on the inside upper left corner of the cover is a radical. Each successive page, when opened to lie against the open cover, displays the body of a character which lies against the radical so that the two make one character. By flipping from page to page, the student juxtaposes different bodies with the one radical, thereby making different characters.
