Title page of v. 3 reads: Minstrelsy of the Scottish border ... In 3 volumes. 2d ed. Edinburgh, Printed by J. Ballantyne for Longman and Rees, London, and sold by Manners and Miller, and A. Constable, 1803.

"Second edition" is intended to mean that this vol. was the second series rather than the second edition. Cf. W.C. van Antwerp. A collector's comment on his first editions of the works of Sir Walter Scott.

Includes 1 p. of advertisements at end of v. 3.

Vol. 1, half title and errata leaf at end wanting, half title to Historical ballads bound incorrectly before front.; v. 2, half title wanting; v. 3, half title to Historical ballads wrongly bound before Contents, errata leaf and half title to Romantic ballads wrongly bound before p. [1] Cf. W.C. van Antwerp.

Vol. 3 has extra half title to "part second, romantic ballads" which is wrongly called: part III.
