A native of New York State, Mr. Silliman had been interested in athletic programs for boys for many years. He was swimming coach and director of numerous camps and, during World War II, was one of the officers connected with the Navy's swimming program. In 1947 the Boys' Clubs of America awarded Mr. Silliman a certificate for this story of summer camp life, The Scrapper.
